*exclusive interview with Olafur Arnalds

Ακολούθησαν την επόμενη διετία τρία EP's που κυμαίνονταν στο ίδιο ύφος, με το δεύτερο προσωπικό του album "and they have escaped the weight of darkness" να έρχεται την Άνοιξη του 2010, παίρνοντας διθυραμβικές κριτικές από μεγάλα έντυπα και σταθμούς, όπως BBC Music, Guardian, The Times, XLR8R.

How would you describe your sound? Ηοw has your music evolved since you first began creating your own music?

I would describe it somehow as contemporary classical with a shot of pop/electronica. I think it has evolved more and more into the pop/electronica side since is tarted.

"..The classical scene is kind of closed to people who haven't been studying music all their lives. I would like to bring my classical influence to the people who don't usually listen to this kind of music…open people's minds." Have you achieved this so far?

I think so, at least i have met a lot of people who have said i got them into classical music. That makes me very happy...

Who are your major influences?

Both older classical composers like Chopin, Bach and Schubert as well as modern electronic, pop/rock and classical musicians.

What do you think about the music scene in Iceland?

It's great, lots of good bands compared to the size of the country and it's small enough for everyone to know each other, which is nice.

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

It usually starts with me on the piano improvising until i land on a nice theme or melody. At that point i usually take it into my studio and start working on arrangements and production.

What do you do on your spare time?

I don't really have much spare time... But when i do I like to make music that i dont 'have to' make. ie, some other types of music - music that is not my job..

Is the current music scene in good health or in need of a full medical? Some bands you would recommend?

It's in great health, never been better. I love the changing of the industry, it's bringing the power back to the artists It's a great feeling to not have to rely on a major label behind you to be able to do anything at all.

Thank you for your time! (your personal fan, especially of the track 0040, Aristotelis)
